HEAVY FIRE LOSS
WOOLSTON TANNERIES DRYING ROOM GUTTED (Per Pro.ss Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Damage estimated at between £7OOO and £IO,OOO was done by a tire last night in the sole-finishing department of Woolston Tanneries Limited. The fire had a strong hold on the interior of the building, a brick one, when the alarm was given about G o’clock. Four fire engines rushed to the scene and by the use of five leads of hose had the outbreak under control in an hour. If is thought that the fire originated in the automatic stoker in the centre of the building, and the drying room in this part was practically gutted. The warehouse end of the building was damaged only by water, and smoke. No sooner had the firemen brought
the Woolston fire under control, than they received a call to the brush factory of Bunting and Company. Limited, : ;i Fire street. The fire here was in a boiler house where a sawdust bin had caught fire. Although the blaze was difficult to get at, it was suppressed without a great deal of damage being done.
