RHINE FLOODING
THE SIEGFRIED LINE CLANKING OF PUMPS MAGINOT FORTS HIGHER f CASEMENTS CLEAR (Reed. Oct 20. 11.50 a.m.) LOiNDON, Oct. 19. Paris reports slate that heavy rain is impeding the operations on the Western Front. The Rhine has flooded the Siegfried Line, where the German bank is 2ft. lower than the French.
The clanking of pumps was heard throughout the night from the German fortifications.
The water is licking the lower works of the iMaginot Line, but the main casements are well clear.
In further reference to the flight made by British airmen, a communique states that the Royal Air Force last night successfully reconnoitred the north-west of Germany and reached the objectives. All the machines returned.
