The Navy Department has ordered work lo be started on five Pacific Island air bases, with an award of construction contracts totalling approximately £2,921,400. namely at Kaneohe Bay, on Oaku Island, a llect air base at Pearl Harbour and on Midway, Johnston and Palmyra Islands. Congress -authorised 12 bases last session -approximating £13,000,000 for the purpose. The Navy Department announcement indicates that the new Pacific works will be accelerated beyond the others.
