COASTAL TRADE The Kopara continued discharging Lyttelton cargo n't Gisborne this morning and was to sail later in the day for Tokomaru Bay, Auckland ■and Portland. After loading general cargo at Auckland on Monday, the ship takes in cement at Portland on Tuesday for Gisborne and Napier. Tlte Pakura which was delayed by rain at Auckland yesterday, was to sail to-day for Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier, arriving here on Monday. The vessel will visit Napier and Wellington later.
The Pukeko leaves Wellington tonight for Napier and Gisborne, and after working here on Tuesday sans for northern ports.
The Margaret W. completed loading at. Gisborne this afternoon and sailed for Auckland. The ship loads at Auckland on Monday and Tuesday for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne.
The Wainui leaves Dunedin on Monday, and works Oamaru and Tima.ru on Tuesday, and Lyttelton on Wednesday, thence Wellington. The (ship arrives at Gisborne on August 21. The Rata arrived at Gisborne from Greymouth at 5.45 a.m. to-day. On completion of the discharge of her coal, timber and posts she is to be dispatched late on Monday for Westport.

Maimoa (Shaw, Savill; agents, Common, Shelton and Company), from New Plymouth, loads meat and dairy produce at Gisborne September 13-14 for London and west coast ports of the United Kingdom. Leaves Auckland on. September 21 for London, via Panama and Kingston. Tokomaru Bay Roadstead Tongariro (New Zealand Shipping Company), from Wellington, loads meat and general cargo at Tokomaru Bay August 20-23. Leaves Auckland ion August 29 for Southampton, London, Avonmouth. Liverpool and Glasgow. SUFFOLK'S MAIDEN VOYAGE The New Zealand Shipping Company, Auckland, has been advised that the Federal Line's new motor ship Suffolk, o’f 41,000 tons gross, which was launched at Glasgow last month, will leave Liverpool evi October 14 on her maiden voyage to Australia. She is due at Fremantle on November 15. The 'Suffolk will be commanded by Captain F. S. 'Hamilton, formerly of the motor ship Opawa. Captain T. L. Maltiby, master of the Hororata. which has been transferred lo the British India Company and renamed Wavoonga, is now master of the Opawa. RUDDERLESS VESSEL A vessel of distinction is the motor ship Veeta, built (by John T. Thornycroft and Company, Limited, for the Red Funnel Line, 'Southampton. The vessel is without rudder, blades being used for both propelling and steering. Many small Vessels are propelled in such fashion—the Voith-Schneider system—but the Veeta. with a gross tonnage Of 621 in a length cl' 200 ft., is the largest commercial ship to be so driven. The Red Funnel Line require
“handy ships” for the general utility purposes they serve. They provide a link between Southampton and the Isle of Wight and act as tenders for passengers embarking or disembarking from ships using the port and for the transport of motor cars. The ability to manoeuvre quickly is essential: the Voith-Schneider system claims to do this.
