DIPPING OF LIGHTS

MOTORISTS’ OBLIGATION

MERCURY VAPOUR AREA

COMPULSORY MOVE

A reminder of the obligation placed upon motorists with regard to the dipping of their lights was given this morning by the town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins.

Mr. Jenkirxs pointed out that it was now compulsory for motorists to dip their lights when approaching any other traffle, including cyclists, and vehicle-owners who have not had their head-lamps adjusted in compliance with the new regulations were required to do .so immediately under penalty of prosecution. The traffic regulations also require that motorists dip their lights when the light from some artificial source is sufficient to render clearly visible a pedestrian or some similar substantial object at a distance of 300 ft.

In view of the installation of mercury vapour lamps in Gladstone road, it is pointed out that motorists must dip or dim the head-lamps of their vehicles when driving in the area lighted by these lamps.
