AGREEMENT IN TRADE
BETTER BALANCE SOUGHT

(Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Proas Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 12, 9 a.m.) OTTAWA, Aug. 10. Canada and New Zealand have agreed to extend the existing trade treaty for another year.
This was announced after a conference between the New Zealand Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, and the Canadian Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mr. W. D. Euler.
Messrs. Nash and Euler issued statements recognising that something should be done about the trade balance, but indicating that an effective plan to bring this about had not yet been evolved. Mr. Nash undertook that New Zealand,:' as; circumstances 'permitted, would do' its utmost, by the relaxation of restrictions, to ensure the maximum expansion of. trade with Canada, consistent .with the maintenance ot sound economic conditions in New Zealand. Mr. Euler recognised that the scope for enlarging New Zealand’s imports to Canada was limited by a few products New Zealand has available, but expressed willingness to examine means whereby Canadian purchases of New Zealand products could be increased.

The New Zealand Minister of Finance, Mr. W. Nash, passed the night here. He is departing for Hyde Park by motor car this afternoon for an interview with President Roosevelt, after which he is entraining at Albany for Chicago.
