SYDNEY BOAT IN LEAD IN YACHT RACE TO HOBART

SYDNEY, This Day (Rec. Noon) — The yawl Margaret Rintoul, of Sydnel, has taken the lead from the Tasmanian sloop, Mistral V, in the Syd-ney-Hobart yacht race. The leaders have now entered Bass Strait in fair weather and the Margaret Rintoul was reported early this morning 25 miles south-east of Gabo Jsland and moving at 10 knots before a northeast breeze.

The Minstral V was then seven miles behind her, followed by the Nerida, Seevogel, Fortuna and the trans-Tasman entrant Solveig. The Ellida has again returned to Sydney and has announced her retirement from the race The Wayfarer was automatically disqualified when she tied up in Jervis Bay to repair a leak in the bow. She is continuing as radio mother ship.
