LEVY FOR POULTRY INDUSTRY PLACED ON FOWL FOODS.
WELLINGTON, This Day (0.C.).— To provide a fund for the organisation of the poultry industry at the request of that industry, provision is made by the Bran and Pollard Levy Regulations, gazetted last week for a levy of 20s a short ton on those-fowl foods. The levy on bran and pollard other than that used for egg production is to be applied by the Wheat Committee toward meeting the subsidy on wheat products. An amendment to the Hides Regulations was also gazetted last week, involving the abolition of all reference to tare allowances. This 1 will mean that in future there will be no additional cost to the domestic user of hides through his having to pay on the actual weight of hides. In the past the tare allowance was more in the nature of a weight discount; Producers will receive a slightly lower return on a per pound basis but their overall return' will remain unaltered. This amendment comes into force on January 1. ■- The Gazette also contains a consolidation of the Pelt Regulations, 1949. No provision is now made for the sale of pelts by compulsory auctions conducted by the Pelt Controller. Alsd no provision is made for the payment of a floor price, nor for any part of the proceeds of the sale of pelts to be paid into the Meat Industry Account. The new regulations retain the 1949 provisions enabling tanners to be supplied with an adequate number of pelts at a fixed domestic price. The difference between the domestic price i and the ruling export price is to be J paid into the Meat Industry Account.
