He told the Court his crime was “a terrible mistake.” ' Judge James McCraney sentenced Gold to two terms of 30 years imprisonment, each to run concur! ently, on two charges of espionage m wartime. , Gold said he had deep, horrible remorse. He had received a scrupulously fair trial and good treatment from Government investigators and prison authorities. . “This could not have happened m the Soviet,” he added. Gold, who admitted acting as a courier between the British spy Klaus Fuchs, and the Russians, gave evidence against others in the spy ring.
