SOVIET VETOES U.N. CALL ON RED CHINA

NEW YORK, November 30.—The Soviet Union today vetoed the SixPower resolution in the . Security Council calling for . the withdrawal of the Chinese Communists, from Korea. The vote was nine in favour of the resolution and Russia against it. India did not vote. The vetoed resolution assured. the Chinese about the United. Nations intentions on the Manchurian bolder. The Council rejected a Russian proposal for the withdrawal of American sea, air and land forces from Formosa and “all other territories belonging to China.” It also rejected a Chinese Communist proposal condemning alleged United States aggression in Formosa and Korea, and demanding the withdrawal of American forces. The vote was 9-1 agamst both resolutions. India again did not Sir Benegal Rau (India) said he wished to emphasise . the friendly feeling that existed in the United States for the Chinese people. He added: “I have not met a single individual in this country at any level, whether Government official or private citizen, who was not anxious that there should, be no war directly or indirectly between the United States and China.” After the voting, the Council adjourned until an unspecified date.
