SLOW WICKET FOR PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH TODAY
WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.). —After heavy overnight rain, during which the wicket was left uncovered, the Plunket Shield cricket match between Wellington and Central Districts resumed in beautiful weather at the Basin Reserve this morning. Wellington’s innings was declared close at the overnight score of 291 for nine wickets and Meuli and Bowden opened Central District’s innings to the bowling of the young speed merchant, Jones, from the northern end and Murray from the south. Ten came up aftei’ 35 minutes play. Testimony to the accuracy of Jones’s bowling was the fact that only one run came from his first six overs.
Randall gained an immediate success when he trapped Bowden leg before, Central District’s score then being 11, scored in 45 minutes. The incoming batsman was Ongley. He was soon off the mark, though one snick off Randall for two went peril-
ously close to Reid at first slip.
At noon Central Districts had scored 18 for one wicket. (Meuli not out 6; Bowden lbw, b Randall 4; Ongley, not out 4; extras 4).
