N.Z., POTATOES TO END SYDNEY’S ACUTE SHORTAGE
SYDNEY, This Day (Rec. 1.30 p.m.).—New Zealand potatoes, which arrived in Sydney last week by the freighter, Stonegate, may reach retailers late tomorrow or early on Thursday. The Stonegate’s 40,000 bags of potatoes should be all unloaded today. The working of the cargo has been delayed by a wharf dispute, the lack of week-end labour and yesterday’s Labour Day holiday. A further 27,617 bags of potatoes will arrive in Sydney from New Zealand towards the end of the week.
The New Zealand potatoes, which are expected to end Sydney’s potato famine for a,fortnight, will retail at 4d a lb.
