Stock Yards

Sir, —I am seeking information as to the proposed erection of stock yards at Paroa. If the yards are built at Paroa, they will be approximately three miles from the abattoirs, against approximately two miles from where they are now situated; so fiom that I fail to see any gain. We will have cattle bellowing throughout the night and I wonder if these yards will become a breeding ground for flies. When cattle are driven to the abattoirs, they will either pass through the railway gates, which, 1 understand, are to be locked shoitly, or along Dowling road and through a new road recently constructed by the Grey County Council, thence on to the main road, thus causing inconvenience to each householder as they pass. And then they must pass the Paroa School, thus causing a danger for our children. Children walking to and from school from South Beach may encounter these cattle and their only avenues of escape are a swamp on one side and a steep bank on the other. , , I suggest that the yards be built at the abattoirs, the only sensible position I can see for them. Surely, if the authorities are going to the expense of erecting new yards, a loop line could be put in at the abattoirs and then the cattle would be right on the 1 job.—Yours, etc., DOWLING RD. Paroa, October 2.
