HUMAN LEG FOUND ON HOKITIKA BEACH

The discovery of a human leg on the beach north of Hokitika during the week-end is regarded as the first clue in the case of an elderly Hokitika man, Herman Hartke, who has been missing from his home for almost a month.

The leg, was found in the sand and taken possession of by the police. A medical examination proved the remains to part of a human body, and the leg has been submitted now for expert medical examination in an effort to determine the age and sex of the owner and the length of time it had been immersed in the water.
