Conscription In U.S.A. The United States Army said today that it would require at least 330,000 conscripts to bring the Army to the 'desired strength. Orders have been issued to conscript 170,000 men by the end of November, and 160,000 more will be conscripted in later months. Major-General Clovis Byers, Deputy Chief of Staff, gave these figures to the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee. Mr Carl Vinson, chairman of the committee, disclosed that only 30,000 men had been conscripted into Army service since expansion began after the outbreak of the Korean war.—Washington, Sept, 28,
