Milk Treatment Machinery Develops Fault
The argument as to the relative merits of pasteurised and raw milk can be tested over the next few days bv Greymouth householders, the large majority of whom have been receiving the pasteurised variety for their daily supply. The process machinery in the pasteurising plant at Riversdale Dairy, the central milk treating depot at Greymouth, has developed a fault and consequently only raw milk will be available over the next few days. It is understood that the fault developed on Thursday, preventing the treatment of the greater part of the town supply. No information was available this morning as to the length of time the pasteurising equipment will be out of action, but the plant was under repair yesterday. In the meantime Greymouth’s milk supply is being bottled and delivered as raw milk. In the process the milk is still passed though the filtering and cooling plant. x • x- r Although the pasteurisation of Greymouth’s milk has been practised for some time now, a number of householders, whq do not favour the treated milk, have made arrangements to have delivered bottled raw milk which is also supplied by the treating-house.
