AID-FOR-BRITAIN IN N.Z.: MR ATTLEE’S MESSAGE

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.).— “In 1947, at a time of great difficulty for the people of Britain it was great encouragement to hear of the calling of an Aid-for-Britain conference and the setting up of an Aid-for-Britain national council and to know that New Zealand stood side-by-side with us in our economic difficulties,” says the British Prime Minister, Mr Attlee in a message to the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr Holland, on the occasion of the national council going into recess.

Mr Attlee expresses sincere appreciation of the fine work that the council has done in many fields during the past three years, especially in the despatch of food gifts. “These gifts have brought comfort to countless British homes and have forced personal links which will endure,” says Mr Attlee, who adds that Britain recently has made good progress and, despite remaining difficulties will continue to move forward.
