HARDBOARD SUPPLY POSITION: URGENT QUESTION IN HOUSE
WELLINGTON. This Day (P.A.). —ln the House of Representatives today Mr P. G. Connolly (Oppn, Dunedin Central) in an urgent question asked the Minister of Customs, Mr C M Bowden, if the. Government had issued or intended to issue an import licence to New Zealand 1* orest Products Ltd., allowing them to become the sole importer of hardboard. Mr Connolly said this firm was the solo manufacturer of hardboard in New Zealand, and would thus have a complete monopoly over this product. Mr Bowden, replying, said that due to the restricted supply of plywood and plaster board, there had been an extraordinary demand for hardboard for which there was at present an unsatisfied demand. That diad led to some inquiry into the stock position, but no import licence had been issued to Forest Products Ltd and’ they had not applied for one.
