TABLE TENNIS VISITING PLAYERS PROMINENT AT REEFTON TOURNEY
Christchurch players dominated play in the finals of the Buller table tennis championships, held at Reefton on Saturday, winning six of the seven titles. The tournament was the first of its kind to be played at Reefton, and, with players present from Christchurch, Greymouth, Hokitika and Westport, the standard was high. Miss I. Coghlan, of Reefton, who won the girls’ singles when she defeated the West Coast title-holder, Miss G. Hahn, was the only local player to win a title. The only Greymouth players to reach the finals were Misses F. Rhodes and P. McGrath, who were subsequently defeated by Misses D. Senior and R. Idles (Christchurch) in the women’s doubles. Miss Senior won the women’s singles and the mixed doubles with W. Hay (also of Christchurch).. Results of the finals were as follows: — Girls’ Singles (under 18 years).— Miss Coghlan (Reefton) beat, Miss G. Hahn (Ahaura), 21-18, 21-19. Boys’ Singles (under 18). —N. O’Brien (Christchurch) beat G. Roselli (Westport), 21-14, 21-16. Women’s Singles.—Miss D. Senior (Christchurch) beat Miss B. Walsh (Westport), 20-22, 21-9, 21-14, 2.1-15. Men’s Singles. —N. O’Brien (Christchurch) beat V. Rollerson (Christchurch), 21-12, 18-21, 21-14, 21-16.
Women’s Doubles.—Miss Senior and Miss R. Idles (Christchurch) beat Miss F. Rhodes and Miss P. McGrath (Greymouth), 21-16, 21-11, 21-15.
Men’s Doubles.—V. Rollerson and W. Hay (Christchurch) beat N. O’Brien and J. Hulston (Christchurch), ,21-18, 21-14, 21-17. Mixed Doubles.—W. Hay and Miss Senior (Christchurch) beat L. Martin and Miss Walsh (Westport), 21-12, 21-13, 21-16.
