POWER SUPPLY BREAK IDLES TWO MINES TODAY
f A brief fault on the ‘main transmission lines of the State Hydroelectric Department, between Lake Coleridge and the Arahura sub-sta-tion, imposed a total power, break on the whole of the.-West Coast area this morning. The fault, possibly due. to snow m the Alps, occurred at 7.50 a.m., and the normal supply was restored five minutes later. This brief interruption, however, was sufficient for two of the Grey district mines, Wallsend* and Dobson, to lose the day’s work. In both cases the fans, which are the key to the mines’ ventilation systems, were stopped longer than the maximum period allowed and the miners, who had assembled for work, had to return to their homes. A noticeable effect of the break in Greymouth itself was the stopping of the town’s electric clocks at 7.50.
