OBITUARY Mr Thomas E. Williams
Following a lengthy illness, the death of Mr Thomas Edward Williams occurred yesterday at his residence, Dawson street, Reefton. Aged 68 years, he was born at Sydney, and came to New Zealand early in the century, working in the gold mines abound the Reefton district for the greater part of his life. He was for many years president of the Inangahua Miners’ Union. He served in World War I. He is survived by his widow and by two sons, William (Auckland) and Edward (Wellington), and by his daughter, Mrs G. Wills (Christchurch). The funeral will take place at the Reefton Suburban Cemetery tomorrow afternoon. Mrs Kate W. Baird The death occurred last evening after a lengthy illness of Mrs Kate Winifred Baird, formerly of Cobden, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs J. Cossar, Christchurch, Aged 68 years, she was born at Christchurch, and came with her late husband and her family to Blackball in 1914. She moved to Cobden, in 192.1, where she resided for 26 years prior to returning to Christchurch four years ago. Predeceased by her husband 10 years ago, she is survived by three sons, Richard and Ralph (Greymouth) and William (Cobden); and three daughters, Mrs N. Culling (Blaketown), Mrs J. Robertson (Kaikoura) and Mrs J. Cossar (Riccarton). The funeral will take place at the Karoro Cemetery on Saturday morning, following Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church.
