Godfrey Phillips, Ltd.

During his speech at the annual general meeting of Godfrey Phillips, 1 Ltd., London, last month, the chairman, Mr P. A. G. Phillips, announced the appointment to the London board of directors of two former New Zealanders, Mr Cedric M. Paynter and Mr Algernon Borthwick. Mr Paynter was the first managing director of Godfrey Phillips’ New Zealand company, which he developed into a major cbncern. Hens now managing director of Godfrey Phillips (Aust.) Pty., Ltd., .and resident in Melbourne. Mr Borthwick .is chairman of Thomas Borthwick and Sons (Australasia), Ltd., and a member of the London board of the Commercial Bank of Australia, Ltd. “These appointments,” said Mr Phillips, “confirm the increasing importance of the New Zealand and Australian companies to the Godfrey Phillips group.”
