PROSECUTIONS TO FOLLOW WORK WITHOUT PERMITS
HOKITIKA, This Day (0.C.).— Contractors who proceed with construction work in Hokitika without permits will be prosecuted. This was decided by the Hokitika Borough Council at its meeting last night. Following a report from the Hokitika kindergarten that numerous complaints were being received from parents whose children were being molested by stray dogs on their way to the kindergarten, the council agreed that to meet the situation the borough inspector be instructed to take legal action against owners of unregistered dogs. * The Treasury Department advised that inscribed, loans amounting to £5191 matured,on February 1, with a £9O reduction in half-yearly interest charges, and, as-a result, the indebtedness of the borough in respect to inscribed loans had been reduced to £1541. The council was advised that the Fire Board’s levy this year would be £484. No action was taken in connection with a proposal by the Hokitika Progress League that an emergency committee be formed to assist the council. It was decided to make a grant of £5O towards the Municipal Band’s uniform fund.
