Houses For School Teachers
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).—An allocation of State houses to head teachers at schools near State housing areas was suggested at the annual meeting of the Auckland School Committees’ Association last night. A remit from the Grey Lynn Committee asked that a housing scheme providing accommodation for all head teachers and portion of school staffs be part of the Education Department’s policy. The remit added that in all cases of building of new schools houses should be built before the schools were opened, and urged an immediate start to provide for existing schools. When schools were built they .were nearly always handy to State housing sites, said Mr J. Nelson (Grey Lynn). Mr D. W. Rutledge, a member of the Auckland Education Board, said the board was more concerned with providing, houses for teachers in country districts. Where possible arrangements had been made to allocate a ■State house to the headmaster of a school near a State housing area. It was decided to send the remit to the Education Board and to offer the association’s help in getting an allocation of State houses included in the Education Department s policy.
