Housewives’ Union
Fourteen of about 30 Greymoutn women who attended a meeting held in the Lyceum Hall last night expressed their willingness to join a Greymouth Housewives’ Union and the following officers were elected: President, Mrs C. Rawcliffe; vicepresident, Mrs H. Browning; secretary Mrs D. Thomson. Addresses were given by Mrs M. E. Furey, president of the Canterbury Housewives’ Union, and Mrs M. Taylor, also of Christchurch. The speakers dealt with the aims of the union and the proposed petition to Parliament on incomes, housing and price control.
Death Of Mr W. J. Renton The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr William James Renton, aged 76 years, second son of Mr and Mrs J. Renton, founders of the firm of Renton and Company. For many years Mr Renton practised as a dental surgeon at Hokitika. He was a great motoring enthusiast, and with his brother, Mr P. H. Renton, drove the first motor-car to the Franz Josef in 1911. Mr Renton is survived by three sisters and five brothers,
