EQUATOR FAVOURED IN STRONG FIELD: AVONDALE MEETING

The highly-regarded Neptune horse Equator, who ran third to Balmacara and Barfluer in his last start at Ellerslie, will be in strong favour for the Foley Memorial Handicap—main event on the Avondale Jockey Club’s programme tomorrow at Avondale. Equator should find the long straight at Avondale in his favour as he sees out his races in very solid fashion. In a big field the issue appears open. Akbar is in the top flight of stayers, while Regal Gold has shaped promisingly in the little racing which he has had in open company. Mere-ana, a smart sprinter, will be one of the best supported runners in the Mt Eden Handicap of six furlongs. The Foxbridge filly has won in the best company she may share favouritism with the imported horse Duccio and Gold Pal. Likely prospects are as follows: — Rosebank Hurdles..—-Happy Fox, Master Arthur, Sir Orelio. Three Kings Hack Handicap.— Malicious, Kittyshah, Rhett Butler. Foley Memorial Handicap.—Equator, Akbar, Regal Gold. Sapling Stakes Handicap.—Royal Fox, Frandore, Installation. Avondale Steeplechase.—Jon Rosa, Young Bob, Dark Victory.
