Second Day Prospects At Hutt Park Trots

Aqua Lady, trained at Rakaia by P. G. O’Reilly, could be deemed one of the unluckiest runners of the day at Hutt Park last Saturday, and she may return to the winning list in the Wairarapa Handicap on the second "day of the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow. A sound stayer, Aqua Lady finished brilliantly in both her starts on the opening day of the meeting to finish close up to the place-getters. Her task tomorrow will not be an easy qpe, as the field includes a number of smart pacers, Kublai Khan and the Air Mail-First Lord bracket being horses which will be solidly supported. Alcove lost ground in the early stages of her race last Saturday and in the circumstances she did well to reach fourth place. This form will bring her into favour for the Featherston Handicap, winch has been selected with the Wairarapa Handicap for the operation of the doubles totalisator. Robin Adair and Locknit are two other form prospects, especially Robin Adair, who has been a most consistent performer.

Aqua Lady has found a winning run elusive this season and actually she has only one success against her name for the term. This was at the Hutt Park November meeting when she finished brilliantly to overhaul Lady Mavourneen and Great Wonder, the latter being a double winner at the meeting last Saturday.-

ed and a likely improver is Tactician, who lost all chance on the first day by breaking during the running. Alcove’s chance in the Featherston Handicap will depend to a large degree on how she fares at the start. She is an improving pacer and should have the measure of this field if she gets away on terms with the other runners. Apart from Robin Adair and Locknit, few of the runners have any worthwhile form this season. Form Prospects

First Lord was second on opening day and forms a strong bracket with Air Mail, who has improved greatly under W. R. Butt. Both these horses should be in the picture tomorrow. Unlucky Pacer Kublai Khan ran fourth in the Wairarapa Handicap after making up ground and he will be among the favoured division tomorrow. Hilda Scott, Merrymaker and Quarterdeck are all above the average on their day, while a high-class three-year-old in Flight Commander will not be out of his depth in tomorrow’s field. Aqua Lady, Kublai Khan and W. R. Butt’s bracket may dispute the finish.

The Evening Star selects the following horses in their engagements:— Suburban Handicap.—Sure Jinks, Fourth Brigade, Daredevil. Wallaceville Handicap. — Mighty Song, Dolly Fraser, Tactician. Autumn Handicap.—Prince Midas, President, Lady Joss. Wairarapa Handicap.—Aqua Lady, Kublai Khan, First Lord-Air Mail bkt. Stewards’ Handicap. — Bashaw, Sure Jinks, Silver Volo. Featherston Handicap. — Alcove, Robin Adair, Locknit. Wellington Handicap. — Dolly Fraser, Secundus, Empire Lady. Sharpe Handicap. —- Merrymaker, Hilda Scott, Quarterdeck.

Merrymaker probably would have been returned the winner of the sprint last Saturday if he had not broken up near the finishing post, and O. E. Hooper’s candidate may be elected to favouritism in the Sharpe Handicap. Quarterdeck and Hilda Scott, both of whom broke up at the start, participated in a photo finish for the minor placing on the first day, Hilda Scott in particular finishing very strongly. She is a fast pacer once on the journey. Field Marshall and Air Mail also are entitled to respect. Mighty Song’s Form Mighty Song, an impressive winner last Saturday, will find favour in the Wallaceville Handicap. The Springfield Globe mare is a rare stayer and should soon reach a tighter class. Dolly Fraser must again be consider-
