OBITUARY Mr Robert A. Stewart

The death occurred at his residence, Shakespeare street, Greymouth, late yesterday afternoon, of Mr Robert Alexander Stewart, at the age of 76 years Born in Rushbrok, Londonderry’, Ireland, Mr Stewart spent most of his life in the quartz mining industry. He worked in mines at Wallhuila (Victoria) and Zeehan (Tasmania) . He later came to New Zealand and worked at Waihi and Thames before coming to Reefton in 1900. He was engaged at the Ajax mine . at Black’s Point and later was in charge of the Alpine (Lyell), Wealth of Nations, Energetic and Globe Hill mines. He was appointed . manager of the Elackwater mines at Waiuta in 1920. In 1935. Mr Stewart accepted an appointment with the Ashanti Gold Mines in West Africa, He returned to New Zealand three years later, and had resided in Greymouth since then. Mr Stewart was a Justice of the Peace. He was a member and Past Master of the Robert Burns Lodge and Past Master of the Royal Arch Chapter Lodge, Reef ton. Mr Stewart is survived by his wife, Mrs Anne Stewart, one brother Dr A. Stewart (Miami, U.S.A.), and two sisters, Mrs Gilfillan (Ireland) and’Miss E. Stewart (Melbourne). The funeral will take place at the Christchurch crematorium tomorrow afternoon. Mr Arthur E. Lowe The death occurred suddenly this morning of Mr Arthur Edward Lowe, of Firth street, Cobden, at the age of 65 years. Mr Lowe, who was born in London, came to New Zealand about 40 years ago and was employed by the New Zealand Railways Department. He joined the department at Hastings and had worked at different stations throughout the Dominion, chiefly at Te Awamutu, Wellington, Clive and more recently as train running officer at Greymouth. He retired from the department about five years ago and was caretaker until recently _ of the Greymouth Club, He had resided for about 10 years in Blqketown and a further 10 years in Cobden. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and. took an interest in the Christian Science movement, Mr Lowe is survived by his wife, one son, Cyril (Hastings), and one daughter, Mrs R. Barlow (Cobden). There are five grandchildren. The cremation will take place at Christchurch on Tuesday. Mr Williani Collins The death occurred at Greymouth last evening, following a brief illness, of Mr William Henry Collins, oi Moana. ■ . Born at Lake Wanaka 47 years ago Mr Collins resided at Oamaru before coming to the West Coast nine years ago. He was employed in the sawmill at Ruru. Mr Collins, who was single, is survived by his aunt, Mrs M McKee, Christchurch. The , funeral will leave the chapel of Lamb and Son, Christchurch, on Tuesday morning tor the crematorium. Mr James B. Stewart The death took place this morning at his residence, Coal Creek, of Mr James Blair Stewart. ■ ’. Born at Westport 74 years ago, Mr Stewart came to Coal Creek with his parents as a child and was a brewei for many years in his late fathers brewery. Mr Stewart is survived by his wife and one daugther, Norma, also three brothers Archie, Coal Creek), Robert (Hokitika), Frank (Greymouth), and three sisters, Mrs Herrick (Levin), Mrs Bethume (South Africa), and. Mrs King- (New York). The funeral will leave Bellamy s Chapel on Monday afternoon for the Karoro cemetery.
