WOMAN SPRINTER SETS WORLD’S 100 YARDS RECORD
SYDNEY, This Day (Rec. 11 a.m.). —Australia’s champion sprinter, Marjorie Jackson, set a world’s 100 yards women’s record of 10.7 seconds at Newcastle last night. She clipped one-tenth of a second off the previous record, which she shared with the famous Dutchwoman, Mrs Fanny Blankers-Koen. . Miss Jackson recorded 10.8 seconds at the Empire Games at Auckland in February to equal Mrs BlankersKoen’s previous record. She had not been training seriously for last night’s race and ran on a slightly uphill track.
