Fine For Drunkenness
Arrested in Boundary street, Greymouth, last night, a statutory first offender was charged with drunkenness before Mr J. H. North, J.P., at a sitting of the Police Court this morning. He was fined 10s, the amount of his bail. Humid Weather
An unusual period of high humidity has been experienced at Greymouth over the past week, recordings' since March 24 not having fallen below the 90 degree mark. Over the past few days misty and foggy weather has been experienced in the co&stal area. Centres inland have had clear sunshine at times when Greymouth has been shrouded in mist.
Borough Street Marking The street-marking machine recently purchased by the Greymouth Borough Council was given its first tests yesterday in Marsden road, Shakespeare street, and at the TurUmaha street bridge. It was reported ’that the machine proved eminently satisfactory and that it will save considerable time and expense. The machine, which was manufactured in Australia, resembles a huge fountain pen and is moved along to make paint lines of varying thicknesses, as required.
Communist Meeting The Greymouth branch of the Communist Party brought itself before public notice again last night, with the first of a series of open-air meetings at the old Town Hall site. The maximum attendance of listeners was about 50. Mr R. H. Mitchell presided and other speakers were Mt J. Locke, the newly-appointed South Island organiser of the party, and Mr R. H. Moth. The speakers dealt with Communist Party policy for about three-quarters of an hour. There were no interruptions. A collection, it was announced, realised £1 0s 3d.
