"A Wee Bit On The Nose”

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.). —“In the ordinary vernacular, I do think this is a wee bit on the nose,” said Mr M. B. Scully, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today, when a barman was charged with unlawfully supplying liquor to the manager of the hotel in which he was employed. It was stated that liquor was supplied at 9 p.m., after hours. Legally the manager, who was not the licensee of the hotel, was allowed on the premises at that time because of his work, but as he did not reside there he could not drink after 6 p.m. “I do think some circumspection might have been used in a case like this,” said M'r Scully. “I would not even inflict the payment of costs in a case like this.” The defendant was convicted and discharged.
