TOPDRESSING FROM THE AIR: PROGRESS OF WAIKATO COMPANY
HAMILTON, This Day (P..A).— The aerial topdressing company in the Waikato, with one aircraft, has distributed 1200 tons of fertiliser since Christmas and covered about 10,000 acres. The company has now commenced to use two machines and altogether has six aircraft being progressively equipped for aerial topdressing work. By the end of the year’ it is planned to have sufficient equipment to distribute between 20,000 and 30,000 tons of fertiliser within a year and to employ nine pilots. Apart from aerial topdressing, the company is planning the aerial distribution of cobalt and poison rabbit bait and recently opened negotiations for the importation of a helicopter for special work, such as hormone spraying. The amount of fertiliser spread from the air to date in the district would have been considerably greater had the weather conditions been more favourable. _ _ The company is now establishing its own engineering workshops for repairs and maintenance.
