WOOL PRICES UP TODAY AT CHRISTCHURCH
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day (P.A.). —Wool prices scaled new heights at the third Christchurch sale today, exceeding the expectations of farmers and auctioneers.
More than 30,000 bales were offered, mostly late-shorn plains, halfbreds, and fine wools from the high country with a good sprinkling of three-quarterbreds and crossbreds from the West Coast and Banks Peninsula. The sale opened briskly, with prices for all grades of fine wool from 3d to 4d per 'lb better than those ruling at the second sale on February 18 and the demand for coarser wools was equally good with values up by a good 4d per lb on February and better than late North Island rates. j Competition was more widespread than at earlier sales, Bradford buyers being more prominent,, with a brisk demand from Continental firms.
