Pilot ‘Grounded’ For Life: Also To Pay £550
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).— The pilot of an Auckland Aero Club Tiger Moth, which crash-landed and overturned in shallow water at Port Charles on January 8, Terence John Wilson Dutton, aged 22, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today charged with failing to exercise due care and flying at such a low altitude that he caused unnecessary danger to persons or property. Pleading guilty to both charges, Dutton said he had been “grounded” for life and would have to pay £541, the cost of repairing the plane. Sub-Inspector M. E. Lines said that Dutton had a girl friend at Port Charles.
Dutton was fined £5 on each charge by Mr Morling, who took into account the fact that the defendant had to pay for the, damage to the plane and the first instalment in August.
