Tributes to the work of the chairman of the Buller County Council, Mr T. Durkin, were paid when councillors, members of the council staff and other residents met in Westport on Wednesday to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Durkin, who left yesterday on the first stage of a holiday visit to the United Kingdom and Eire. The acting-chair-man during Mr Durkin’s absence will be Mr J. H. Powell.

Mr K. B. Mcßobie, of the staff, of the Greymouth office of the Union Steam Ship Company left last evening to join the purser’s staff of the T.E.V. Rangitira.
