BOOKMAKER CONDUCTED A LOTTERY: FINED £100
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).—On a charge of establishing a lottery and another of carrying on the business of a bookmaker, Edgar Roberts pleaded guilty and was. fined £5O on each by Mr J. Morling, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today. The police said that Roberts bad conducted six totalisator ticket lotteries with 1000 tickets in each every week, that he had employed 28 agents and that in addition to taking win-and-place bets had operating a multiple place betting system.
