Tamatete Handicap At Manawatu Meeting
Unlucky in the running in his race on the opening day of the meeting, Birdman would only need to sliow his true form to hold strong prospects in the Tamatete Handicap, which is the main race on the second day tomorrow of the Manawatu Racing .Club’s meeting. Rirdman, a three-year-old Pictavia—Lone Flier coltj is not far below the best of his age, and he stays on very solidly in his races; Robin’s Reward finished close up in fifth plate last Saturday, while Imperial, third on the opening day, is always a hard horse to beat at Awapuni.
Some top-line sprinters are included. in . the field for the Longburri Handicap which with the Tamatete handicap forms tomorrow double. Newsboy finished third over seven furlongs at his first tilt at open coinpany last Saturday, and he -> will appreciate the shorter distance . tomorrow. The Paper Boy gelding has thd necessary brilliance to gain a good position early in his races. Golden Sun, who also gathers speed quickly, will be racing on his home track tomorrow. At the head of the weights is. Wild Note—winner df the principal sprint on the final day at . Trentham last month. Davey Jones; generally recognised as the leading two-year-old in the southern part of the North Island, - will be the star attraction in the . Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes, but he may be tested by the brilliant - Auckland pair—The Unicorn and Zenith. The two Aucklanders have been big stake winners this season, both having won up to six furlongs under solid weights. Another likely candidate is the Woodville-trained Voiron; Anvil Song and Boyhood both ap- - peal as likely winners in their respective races tomorrow. Form Prospects
