Neither the Australian manager, Mr G. A. Davies, nor the captain, W. A. Brown, would comment in Dunedin on the remarks made recently in England by the leading umpire, Mr F. Chester. Umpire Chester criticised the frequency with which Australian cricketers touring England in 1948 appealed. Brown added, smiling: “I never had cause to appeal over there as a bowler.”
