BOWLING WIN FOR KARORO IN CHAMPION FOURS TOURNEY
The leading Karoro Club four, skipped by Mrs S. Peek, won the West Coast Women’s Bowling Centre’s champion - of - champions rinks played at the Blaketown green yesterday There was a near upset in the semi-finals, when Karoro met the leading four of the newly-formed Hokitika Club. Hokitika played an outstanding game against a team with greater experience, holding the champions to a 27-23 win. Runanga and Dunollie, the other semi-linalists were well matched. After a close game, Runanga qualified for the final, 22-20. Although hard fought and interesting, the final was a clear-cut victory to Karoro, 23-17. At the conclusion of the final the vice-president of the West Coast Women’s Bowling Centre, _ Mrs E. Boote, presented the winning team with the Press Shield. Results were:—
Semi-final: Runanga (Mesdames O’Neill, Finn, Armstrong, • Arm strong) 22 v Dunollie (Mesdames Hambley, Scurr, Heslin, Brown) 20; Karoro (Mesdames McDowall, Thompson, Smart, Peek) 27 v Hokitika (Mesdames Fleming, Groufsky, McMillan, Best) 23. Final: Karoro 23 v Runanga 17.
