U.S. Arms For Vietnam
France had been invited to make recommendations for the supply oi American arms to the French-spon-sored State of Vietnam, the United States State Department said today. The department said it had made no commitment that arms would be sent to the newly-created State, but it would give careful consideration to any requests. It is understood that the department has in mind that arms could be sent directly to the Vietnam authorities, without placing France in a position where she would have to explain why she was using American arms in an area in which she had abdicated her- sovereignty. State Department officials said that Russia’s recognition of the rebel Government of , Dr Ho Chi-minh in Indo-China might i be followed soon by a flood of arms from the Chinese Communists. — 1 Washington, February 13.
