U.S. Testing New “Wonder” Gun
WASHINGTON, February 15 (Rec. 10.30 a.m.). —The Secretary for the Army, Mr Gray, has asked the House Military Appropriations Committee for 4,518,500 dollars to continue a test of “skysweeper,” a top-secret anti-aircraft gun which the army says can hit aeroplanes of supersonic speed either by day or night. Mr Gray described the weapons as “our best answer for the threat posed by aircraft at short and medium ranges.” The gun, which is a 75-millimetre, is said to have radar directed fire control and proximity-fused ammunition. Mr Gray said the army was now placing emphasis on tanks, their guns and ammunition, antiaircraft missiles and guns, guided missiles and medical research in preventive medicine.
