No Developments In Case Of Suspected Murder

GISBORNE, This Day (P.A.).— There were no positive developments in the police investigations, following the finding of the body of Frederick Stanley Hodson partly buried in roadside scrub, two miles from Te Teko. He had been fatally wounded in the chest by a gun-shot. The police, under Inspector Crowley, have been reinforced by parties from Rotorua and Auckland and the investigation is being extended in all directions.

Efforts to locate Chesley Lachlan Brooks, a labourer, employed at the hydro-electric sub-station at Edgecumbe, who has been missing since early on Monday morning, have failed so far. An amended description of Brooks, who was last seen at about 10 a.m. on Monday standing near the car identified as belonging to Hodson, has been circulated by the police. The missing Vauxhall car is a 12 "h.p., 1947 model. When it disappeared the car had sufficient petrol in the tank for a run of 150 miles. The police are also endeavouring to trace the whereabouts of a motorcycle.

No report is available from the pathologist who has been examining the body, and it is not known whether the bullet which killed Hodson was fired at close range or from a distance.
