BODY OF CLIMBER RECOVERED. FROM TARAMAKAU RIVER

Although the search party, composed largely of mountaineers from Arthur’s Pass and led by Constable? p. Larrner, was seriously hampered by rain, efforts to locate' the body of John Frederick Keenan, who ' was drowned while crossings the Taramakau river on Tuesday, were successful yesterday afternoon. The searchers recovered the body from the river near where the tragedy occurred, about one and ahalf miles upstream - from the junction of the Taramakau and Otira rivers, at Aickens. The searchersand* the stretcher-bearers on the return journey, to Otira were aided by the fact that horses for the river crossings were made available by Messrs Jackson brothers. An inquest will be held at Otira this afternoon before Mr C. H. Benfell, J.P., and a jury. The funeral of Mr Keenan will take place at Dunedin. Although the deceased was employed by the Ministry of Works at Christchurch, his parents, Mr and Mrs D. Keenan reside at Dunedin. He was 21 years of age. ->
