A Contrast At Hokitika
For the first time during the election campaign in Westland, the Labour and National candidates “clashed” with . meetings in Hokitika last night, but it served merely to emphasise trends which have been noticeable ( throughout the Dominion in the i course of the campaign. First,, attendances at both meetings were relatively small but at the same time the National speaker drew double the attendance of the Labour meeting. Mr P. J. O’Regan (National) • spoke to 125 people in the Regent ’ Theatre and Mr J. B. Kent (La- > bour) had 65 listeners in the I Princess Theatre, only a few ! hundred yards away. As Mr O’Regan spoke longer, there were 20 “late arrivals” at his meeting, which are not included in the above totals.
