BOOKMAKER FINED TOTAL OF £185

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.).— Eugene Moosey Peters, aged 26, a clerk, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to charges of bookmaking and assaulting a police constable. Senior-Detective Callaghan told Mr J. S. Hanna S.M. that Peters was observed by Constable J. W?Miller, arguing with a woman near the Hataitai Post Office, and, sensing that something was wrong, he spoke to the defendant. Unaware of Miller’s identity, Peters twice knocked the constable to the ground. Peters was arrested after the arrival of a patrol car. Peters, who had a previous conviction for bookmaking,.was fined £175 for bookmaking and £lO for assaulting the constable.’
