MR FRASER’S PLEA: ELECTION MESSAGE

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.).— “The issue this is clear. Do you want to put the clock back with the Nationalists or put it forward to further security and prosperity with Labour,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, in a pre-election message today. “The Nationalists ask you to go back to the system of cut-throat competition which means rich rewards for. the privileged few, but hardship for the many. Money-making exploitation comes before the welfare of the people, their working conditions, their leisure, family life and security. Labour put an end to the injustices, errors and abuses of the past. The Nationalists want to go back to them. - “The Nationalists have always attacked every benefit Labour has instituted from social security to the 40-hour week. Only Labour, which believes in its achievements, can be trusted to continue with the policy of welfare for everybody. The people have never been better housed, better fed, better clothed or enjoyed better health oi' better schools. They have never had more opportunities for them or their children. Never before have the mass of the people had better incomes or greater opportunity to enjoy the good things of life. These are things to be cherished. “Already the Nationalists have said there is too much spending power and they will reduce it. Make no mistake. Less 1 for everyone means harder living conditions for the mass of the people. It means unemployment. Labour built a different type of world. Today is the time to ensure the future for yourselves and your children. “Do not be distracted by those who magnify the trivial aggravations of daily life. Hold fast to the great and good things which Labour, with your help, has accomplished. Labour ended poverty in New Zealand. It abolished want and fear of want. It will continue to build. It will increase further your freedom, your prosperity, your security. Give an overwhelming answer in favour of Labour at tomorrow’s polls.” (Other election reports will be found on Page 8).
