ajr in reference to the letter by “■Rubbles ” let us at least be fair to RD- Kent’. As an old Coaster I know of some improvements he has had a band in very often a lone hand, too, as the newspaper files will bear witness. Among the early achievements was the advocacy of a maternity home, Rewa, and subsequently the establishment o± the Mcßrearty Ward at. the mam hospital the nurses’ kitchen and covered way to the hospital etc. In education, the engineering block and equipment at the Technical School was largely due to Mr Kent’s efforts. Our water scheme, which saved the borough over £2,000 per annum, he put through against much opposition. The Star reports oi those days bear this out. The original “Rest Room was the idea of the Omoto -Ratepayers’ Association of which Mr Kent was president. The present Women’s Centre and Flunket Room was' his practical suggestion for the town’s centennial memorial, also the scholarships for the district memorial. On the Grey Power Board, we all know the part he played in the hydro versus steam controversy and the acknowledgment of his work in this direction by the board was the honour of opening the Arnold scheme. According to the late Minister of Marine he was responsible for getting back the subsidy for the Harbour board when other efforts covering 13 years had. failed. Mr Kent’s selection to represent the people at so many conferences was surely a tribute to his outstanding ability. One could say much more, but let us be fair to one who has done so much at considerable financial sacrifice—Yours etc. ANTI-BUBBLE Greymouth November'2l.
