URANIUM FIELDS DISCOVERED IN AUSTRALIA
SYDNEY, This Day (Rec.. 1 p.m.). —Geologists of the Bureau of Mineral Resources have confirmed the existence of a field of uranium ore 60 miles south of Darwin. The Minister of Supply-and Development, Senator. J. 1. .Armstrong, said that two officers were making tests in the area. The prospector who discovered the field will be eligible for the reward of £lOOO if the deposits can be mined economically. If 25 tons of uranium can be recovered, he will get a further £lOOO. Senator Armstrong said that he recently inspected a number of prospective uranium fields. There were deposits of enormous bulk at Mount Painter, in South Australia. Radium Hill, 70 miles west of Broken Hill, in South Australia, was a very promising field, which was being intensely investigated by the South Australian Government. Another deposit rich in concentrates was in Hart’s Ranges, 180 miles north-east of Alice Springs'.
