OFFICIAL COMMUNIST LINK-UP— Six Satellites Follow Moscow Lead, In Recognising Red China
. LONDON, October 4 (Rec 1 p.m.).—Hungary today became the fifth nation to recognise the new Chinese Communist People’s Republic. An official announcement was made in Budapest. Later Poland became the sixth nation to establish relations. The Associated Press Moscow correspondent says the newspapers there quoted London diplomatic circles as forecasting British recognition of the Chinese Communist Government. ’-“Britain is realistically approaching the question,’’ was the tenor of London reports. . In Washington today the State" Department disclosed an official request for United States recognition has been received from the Chinese Communist Government. A State Department spokesman said there were no immediate plans for a reply or for formal action.
The Czechoslovakian Government was the fourth nation to recognise Communist China. The first three were Russia, Bulgaria and Rumania. ' The Peking radio reports that General Chou En-lai has sent a cablegram to Mr Andrei Gromyko, the Deputy Soviet Foreign Minister, “warmly welcoming” the establishment of diplomatic relations between Communist China and the Soviet Union, and the exchange of Ambassadors between the two countries. General Chou said: “The Peoples Republic of China is deeply convinced that the Government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics has the
most profound friendship for the Chinese people. It is also the first friendy state to recognise the People’s Republic of China today. The Chinese Goverriment and the Chinese people tfeel boundless joy over this.”
