AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION’S SUBSTANTIAL LOSS

Wellington, This Day (p.a.). —A loss of £3lB 12s 4d was reported on the year’s working by the treasurer of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, Mr L. A. Tracy, at a meeting of the executive in Weilingten.. This sum included £257 19s lid which was the management committee’s share of the loss of £567 Ils lid on the Australian tour last summer. Mr Tracy also said that Auckland had not paid a single registration fee during the year and that the centres annual subscriptions, totalling £43, had not been paid. . . A committee was appointed to investigate the possibility of arranging athletic .meetings in various centres for some of the best overseas athletes while they were awaiting return transport after the Empire Games.

Mr J. W. Holley (Otago) was nominated to manage the New Zealand team at the Empire Games. Mrs P. C. Ellis, (Auckland), has been appointed as chaperone of the athletic team.

Both nominations will be considered by the British Empire Games Association. Auckland was declared the winner of the Queensland Memorial Shield with seven points, Wellington second with six points, and Canterbury and Waikato third equal with five points each. The shield is awarded to the team which at the New Zealand championships gains the greatest number of standards and records.
